Faith Wanjoki
Executive Assistant and Junior Field Officer

I was brought by a single mother who is currently living in Kasarani. My family was financially challenged so I was taken to school by an organization called Homeless Children International – Kenya (HCI-K) from class 5 to 8. Due to my good grades I received a bursary from the government for my high school fees and the rest of the fees were paid by FAWE Kenya which supports girl child education for bright girls from poor backgrounds. In Primary I went to Forest View Academy in Karen and I attained a mean grade of A. In high school I joined State House Girl’s High School and attained a mean grade of B.

After finishing high school I opened a wholesale business in Kibera but it was burned down during the post-election violence. Later I worked at an NGO called Real Stars as a social worker, record keeper and accountant for nine month before the director left for Germany in October 2008.

I want to become a lawyer in the future. My hobbies are drawing and painting. Currently I am working with ZanaA and am looking forward to joining university to continue with my studies.


Grace Nakaiyo
Head Field Officer

I come from a family of five. I went to school at Umoja Primary School in Limuru and Hilltop High School before attending Ricatti Collage of East African in Nairobi, where I studied community development and community health. Subsequently, I have been doing volunteering jobs with the Kenya Red Cross, USAID, PathFinder. My most recent job before ZanaA was working with the Ministry of State for Special Programmes as a social worker in their post-election violence trauma therapy programme. I was based in Kibera and through that work I came to work with ZanaA. ZanaA helps me integrate this work as well as past work with women’s groups on micro-finance and job creation, such as making detergent shampoo.

My hobbies are socializing traveling, and reading books that can impact my live. My passion is to mentor girls to empower them to become who they want to be. My dreams are to see myself upgrade my studies to a Masters level. I believe that all things work out for good to those who love Christ.


Mohammed Amos Ireri
Junior Field Officer

I am the fourth child in a family of five and was brought up by a single mother. I am from a Christian background .I have two brothers and two sisters. I have attended Joseph Kangethe Primary School and Komothai Boy’s High School through the sponsorship of HCI-K. In High School I was the school Head Boy, Christian Union Chairman, Treasurer of Scouts’ movement and the Vice-Chairman of Peer Counseling. During part of my Primary years and three years of High School, I worked at The Royal Realm Ltd. during the holiday, providing tents and decoration for events.

I would like to join university and specialize in law and political science. My dream is that one day I will help the people in Kibera and one day to become the president of this nation. My hobbies are playing soccer and table tennis and making new friends


Maureen Mukoya
Junior Field Officer

I was raised by a single parent, my mother, after the death of my father. I completed my secondary school education last year at Njambini Girls high school. I was taken to both primary and secondary school by an organization called Homeless Children International - Kenya. This organization helped me with many of my needs.

My hobbies are dancing and traveling . I am not good at sports but I like watching some of them, mainly swimming and ball games.

My ambition is to become a lawyer. This has been my dream since I was a young girl. The reason behind this is because growing up I saw the Kenyan lawyers working, taking bribes and therefore not conducting their work as required. By being a lawyer I will work to improve our Kenyan judicial system.


Jacqueline Wangina
Junior Field Officer

I am 18 years old and I come from Kibera. I finished my primary level and graduated from Kinyui Girls Secondary School last year. I was in many clubs, but two of them made me who I am: these are Law Club and Why Wait. Law club was about obeying the law and ‘why wait’ was about dealing with sexual rights for women and how we can become better people in society.

One of the biggest dream is to be able to help needy children who cannot help themselves in life. My hobbies are socializing, reading and traveling.

My vision is that one day I will see every girl child able to speak against sexual harassment, forced marriages and FGM so as to become a better woman in the society.


Rosa Moraa
Junior Field Officer

I come from a family of four. I went to school in Nakuru at a school called Lockwood High School. I hope to go to University this year to study business. My hobbies are traveling and thinking. I would like to travel to all of Africa and later to the entire world. I like music and would like to play the guitar and violin.
